Giving Back - The Laurie Mitchell Difference

Laurie Mitchell founded Laurie Mitchell & Company, Inc., Marketing Communications Executive Search, in 1991. She began her career in Executive Search in 1984 at Marvel Consultants where she consistently placed more candidates each year than the search firm's other 15 search consultants. Ninety-five percent of her Marvel clients followed her to the new company.

Over the last 24 years, Laurie has placed 1150 Advertising, Public Relations and Marketing professionals both in AD and PR Agencies and in public and privately held companies. This stellar track record reflects a strong commitment to partnering closely with both client companies and candidates to assure that each placement is a win-win situation. Placing square pegs in round holes does not happen when Laurie runs a search.

Candidates placed by Laurie who then need to staff their own departments invariably return to her as clients. Her acumen in assessing candidate qualifications and her keen understanding of the nuances of individual corporate cultures combined with impeccable ethics make her an uncommonly productive matchmaker. Her noteworthy dedication to both her clients and her candidates has endeared her to many.

Laurie holds a BA/International Relations Magna cum Laude from The School of International Service at American University, and an MA/International Relations from The Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy at Tufts University. She served two full-time semester-long internships at the US Department of State.

Upon receiving her Master's degree, Laurie moved to Israel where she supported the Deputy Mayor and Mayor of Jerusalem in Public Relations and Diaspora Relations, and wrote for the Israeli Foreign Ministry. She also served as Deputy Director of Public Affairs at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and worked for a prominent Tel Aviv Advertising Agency in account services, all the while stringing for many newspapers in Great Britain and the United States.

In 1982, Laurie returned to her hometown of Cleveland and was hired by a local advertising agency where she pitched, landed and handled the Marvel Consultants account. She also threw herself into significant volunteer work for both the American Advertising Federation/Cleveland and the Cleveland chapter of Public Relations Society of America, chairing many committees and fundraisers.

During her ten years on the AAF/Cleveland board, she founded both its minority outreach and scholarship programs, and later served four years as the President of the AAF's 501(c)3 Education Foundation, raising nearly $100,000.00 in scholarships for Ohio students. The Laurie Mitchell Advertising Scholarship is awarded each year to a college student who excels academically and demonstrates stellar writing skills.

Over the years, Laurie has been in heavy demand as a public speaker on Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations careers and “Managing Up and Other Hard Truths for Gen Y’ers”. Her scores of presentations to the AAF, PRSA, IABC, AMA and to college classes throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania and beyond, and her unparalleled accessibility to all candidates have made her a local household name. She has personally coached thousands of individuals on how to write compelling resumes which open doors and facilitate interview agendas. Trade publications and the business press quote her frequently on a wide range of work place issues.

Those who have worked with Laurie know that she is never too busy to stop and discuss their career aspirations. It is her personal caring and hands-on approach which has distinguished her from all competitors, and garnered such respect from her client hiring influences.
